Joseph Mosconi With Sarah Galvin and Robert Lashley

LA-based poet Joseph Mosconi reads from his new book Ashenfolk with Sarah Galvin and literal wizard Robert Lashley. Galvin will be reading new work and selling a rsiographed booklet of her poem “Where Worms Come From” made by Mary Anne Carter, on a sliding scale (get it? Sliding? Worms?) $3-$10. Sarah Galvin is a the author of Ugly Time, The Three Einsteins and The Best Party of our Lives; contributor to The Guardian, Vice Magazine, The Stranger, and City Arts; and also a human bottle rocket. She has an MFA in poetry from the University of Washington.

Robert Lashley
A 2016 Jack Straw Fellow, Artist Trust Fellow, and nominee for a Stranger Genius Award, Robert Lashley has had poems published in Poetry Northwest, Seattle Review Of Books, NAILED, GRAMMA, and The Cascadia Review. His firs full-length book: The Homeboy Songs, was published by Small Doggies press in April 2014. His new book, Up South, was published in March of this year.

Timmy Straw
Timmy Straw is a poet, musician and translator from Oregon. Editions Plane published her first chapbook, To Water, Everything is a Swimmer, and her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Spork, Gramma, Tin House, Weekday & Volta. She’s composed music for film and dance and released several solo & collaborative records. She also studies Russian at Reed College.

We're honored to host a September residency for local laureate Robert Lashley. Every Monday throughout the month, Robert will bring education and inspiration. This night features Seattle-based poet Sarah Galvin.

SARAH GALVIN is the author of a book of poems, The Three Einsteins (Poor Claudia, 2014) and a book of essays, The Best Party of Our Lives (Sasquatch, 2015). Her poetry and essays can be also found in The Guardian, io, New Ohio Review, Vice Magazine, and Pinwheel, among others. She is a regular contributor to The Stranger newspaper. She is a winner of the 2015 Lottery Grant, a 2015 James W. Ray award nominee, and was considered for what would have been the first Radio Flyer Wagon DUI in Washington State history.

CHRISTINE SHAN SHAN HOU is a poet and artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Publications include “I'm Sunlight” (The Song Cave, 2016), C O N C R E T E S O U N D (2011), a collaborative artists’ book with artist Audra Wolowiec, and Accumulations (Publication Studio, 2010). christinehou.com

STACEY TRAN is a writer from Portland, OR. She curates Tender Table, a storytelling series about food featuring POC, queer, femme voices. SHAYLA LAWSON is the author of I Think I'm Ready to See Frank Ocean (Saturnalia Books, 2018). She has written for Salon, Guernica, & ESPN. She is a former Scholar-in-Residence at the Giorgio Cini Foundation of Venice, Italy and a 2017 MacDowell Fellow.

PATRICIA NO is a writer, editor, and publisher in Portland, OR. She is the co-founder of Publication Studio and is an editor at Weekday, an annual literary magazine.

Gramma Poetry Book Launch Reading + Bounce House Dance party

Please join Gramma at its official book launch party featuring SARAH GALVIN and CHRISTINE SHAN SHAN HOU! 

UGLY TIME by Sarah Galvin and COMMUNITY GARDEN FOR LONELY GIRLS by Christine Shan Shan Hou are hot off the press, and we want to celebrate! Join us at Canvas (the old Western Bridge space) on Friday, March 17 for poetry, art, food, drink, music, and a major dance party. 

Doors at 7pm. Mingle! Eat! Drink! Purchase books! Browse visual art featured on the Gramma book covers! 

Readings by Rich Smith, Anastacia-Renee, Donald DunbarChristine Shan Shan Hou, and Sarah Galvin begin at 8pm.

After the reading, Boyfriends will play, followed by a dance party featuring DJs Grody Cody and Angel Baby (from Shannon and the Clams). We will dance until we can dance no longer.

POET BIOS :

Rich Smith is the author of ALL TALK (Poor Claudia, 2014) and GREAT POEM OF DESIRE AND OTHER POEMS (Poor Claudia 2013). He's also the books critic, theater critic, and national politics correspondent the Stranger, a newspaper in Seattle. You can find recent work on his website at www.richsmithpoetry.com. 

Anastacia-Reneé is a queer super-shero of color moonlighting as a writer, performance artist and creative writing workshop facilitator and Writer-in-Residence at Hugo House. Her newest full-length title (V.) will be published by Gramma in July, 2017. She has received awards and fellowships from Cave Canem, Hedgebrook, VONA, Jack Straw, Ragdale and Artist Trust. Her Chapbook 26, (Dancing Girl Press), is an abbreviated alphabet expression of the lower and uppercase lives of women and girls. Her poetry and fiction have been published in Painted Bride Quarterly, Literary Orphans, Bitterzoet, Radius Poetry, Seattle Review, Duende, Bone Bouquet, Daily Gramma, and many more. Recently Anastacia-Reneé has been expanding her creative repertoire into the field of theater and her one woman show, 9 Ounces is a social justice play braiding together three generations.

Donald Dunbar is the author of Eyelid Lick (Fence Books, 2012). His newest full-length title SAFE WORD will be published by Gramma in July, 2017. He lives in Portland, OR.
